A Davine Australian Premiere of an Award Winning Broadway Musical for Adelaide

 

Do you remember the first time you met your best friend? What about the first time you lost one?

 

Renowned performer and Director, David Gauci brings the Australian premiere of an award winning Broadway musical to Adelaide for a limited season during FEAST.

 

You will be touched. You will be moved. But, most importantly you will be inspired.

“I remember the first time I heard the score” recalls Gauci.

“I was compelled to find out more about the show, and I am so glad I did. Now I have the chance to produce and direct the Australian premiere here in Adelaide”.

 

Davine Interventionz Productions will present the musical at Star Theatres from 18 to 21 November. With music and lyrics by Neil Bartram and book by Brian Hill, The Story of My Life tells of two childhood friends, and how their friendship profoundly defined their lives.

 

“The musical is a 90-minute, two hander” says Gauci, “Just two cast members who retell the story of friends Thomas and Alvin”.

Thomas Weaver is a best-selling, award-winning author. Alvin Kelby is his best friend of thirty years. But time has tested the bonds of their friendship, and when push comes to shove, Thomas has to call on the only resource he has – his stories of Alvin’s friendship.

 

Gauci, from Adelaide himself, has once again selected an all South Australian creative team and cast.

“It makes sense to work with people I know, and whose work has impressed and inspired me”, says Gauci.

 

Returning to the Davine stable is performer, David Salter who recently played the role of Denny Doherty in Davine’s Adelaide Fringe production of Flowerchildren – The Mamas and Papas Story. A newcomer to the Davine team and joining the cast is performer, Paul Rodda.

“I have worked with Paul before”, remarks Gauci, “In a production of Spelling Bee. I’ve always been impressed with his work and am looking forward to having him play one of the two characters in the musical”.

 

Another newcomer to the Davine fold is Peter Johns as Musical Director.  Gauci explains, “Peter has a CV as long as my arm, and the musicals that he has been associated with have always been first class, I’m excited to work with him”.

 

Davine Interventionz Productions, the same production company that brought the award winning Xanadu the Musical and Flowerchildren – The Mamas and Papas Story to Adelaide Fringe, brings this landmark musical to FEAST for 2015.

 

A richly melodic musical, The Story of My Life is a soaring tribute to the power of friendship and the people who change our lives forever. It reminds us that love isn’t always straightforward and not to take the simple things for granted.
